FAPB College Contest
The FAPB Broadcast Excellence Award is granted to excellence in broadcasting throughout Florida Associated Press stations. To submit your entry, click here.
Submissions for the FAPB Broadcast Excellence Contest will be accepted beginning Monday, January 7, 2019. All entries must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2019.
Stations must be an AP member to enter the competition. All entries must have aired between
January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018.
Entries must be their on-air version. An entry cannot be a re-creation.
There is a 15-minute time limit for entries, except as noted in the rules specific to the category.
Each entrant (whether it be a station or individual) will be allowed to submit up to (3) three entries per category, unless stipulated otherwise. An entry in one category may also be submitted in another applicable category, unless otherwise noted, if the proper fees are paid each time. No AM-FM combo will be allowed to enter the same tape twice in the same category.
Work done by a PAID student must enter in the professional category only, while an unpaid student
can enter in either contest but not both. (i.e. paid interns)
No more than two names may be included per entry. If more than two people are involved in producing the work the award will be presented to the news organization.
The decision of the judges is final. There may not be an award given for every category.
SPANISH entries in all categories are welcome. An English transcript MUST be provided for judges.

The fee for all college entries is $25.
Entry fees may only be paid electronically via the BetterBNC contest website.
BEST TV NEWSCAST: Up to 1 hour
BEST RADIO NEWSCAST: Up to 15 minutes
BEST BREAKING NEWS: Coverage of an unplanned single event on one day or stretching over a series of consecutive days. Up to 5 minutes
BEST BREAKING NEWS VIDEO (Television only): Video coverage ONLY of an unplanned single event on one day or stretching over a series of consecutive days. Up to 5 minutes
BEST SPORTS: One story or series of reports. Up to 5 minutes
BEST USE OF SOUND (Radio Only): Up to 5 minutes
BEST SHORT LIGHT FEATURE: Up to 3 minutes for TV and 90 seconds for radio
BEST LONG LIGHT FEATURE: Up to 15 minutes for both radio and TV
BEST SHORT HARD NEWS FEATURE: Up to 90 seconds for radio and 3 minutes for TV
BEST LONG HARD NEWS FEATURE: Up to 15 minutes for both TV and radio
BEST PHOTO ESSAY: Can include natural sound and/or voice. Up to 15 minutes
