Entry Submissions

A part of the mission of Florida Associated Press Broadcasters is to recognize the outstanding work of professional and college-level broadcast journalists working in the sunshine state. Our annual excellence contest is the pinnacle of that effort, culminating with an annual awards gala.

FAPB is excited to introduce new contest categories that together highlight the individuals and roles that lead to a newsroom’s overall success.  

All entries for the Florida Associated Press Broadcasters Annual Broadcast Excellence Contest are submitted using a web-based program, BetterBNC. NOTE: BetterBNC application website is optimized for the Google Chrome browser and Firefox for PC and Macintosh/Apple. Please have a recent version downloaded and installed for the best contest experience. 

Other award opportunities from the Florida AP Broadcasters Association include the College Scholarship Program (elgible to high school students) or the FAPB Legacy Award (eligible for broadcast professionals with 25+ years of experience).

Submission Instructions

  • Once at the website, click the “Enter the Contest Here” button.

  • Choose “Contestant Manager” or “Authorized Entrant.”

  • If you are a single or main point of contact for your organization, select Contestant Manager. If the designated Contestant Manager should leave the company and their email account is no longer accessible contact AP to have the email account changed.

  • If you have received an email authorizing you to submit entries for your organization, select Authorized Entrant.

  • Open Call entries should only be used by individuals no longer employed at the station or website who wish to enter their work. The open call entrant will need a station manager or news director’s signature verifying the entrant was employed and the piece aired during the designated dates.

  • In the Media Organization drop-down list, select your station.

  • If you entered the contest online in previous years, you will use the same password as before. If you forgot your password, use the “Lost Password” button. If you have never used the online system before, enter your temporary password: Broadcast1 (case sensitive) and click Login. When you first login, the system will prompt you to create a secure password and enter your contact information.

  • The first time the Contestant Manager logs in, they will need to submit two entries. At that time, the BetterBNC system will email the primary contact to confirm your email address. There will be a link in the confirmation email. If you don’t see the email, check your junk mail or spam folder.

  • After receiving the confirmation email and updating some general account information, the Contestant Manager can add the names and emails of anyone at the station who is eligible to submit entries. Those additional people would be considered “Authorized Entrants”.

  • For problems logging in, please contact FAPB. Do not use the “contact us” link on the online platform.
